The day will start with you introducing your business idea, your intended sales’ avenues and market placement.  We will look at any branding ideas you already have and ways to take this forward.

The morning will cover the practical side of candlemaking, with you making a selection of container candles, including:

  • A large 3 wick
  • A traditional 30cl tumber style
  • 2 x tin candles

We will discuss waxes – both vegetable and mineral and choose the right wax for your business, through uncovering the merits and downfalls for each.  We will also discuss any presentation issues these waxes may give you through the changing seasons, and how to solve such problems.

There will be a large choice of fragrances you can use, and again, we will discuss in depth the benefit of natural (Essential Oils) versus synthetic (Fragrance Oils).  Please note we will NOT be blending any oils.

Candlemaking is all about experimentation.  There is no magic formula, it takes tenacity and patience to get your product as you would like it to be.  I will show you how I undertake my own experimentation and safety tests and how I make my wick selections, based on the 7 years of experience I have within the industry.

This course includes a start up kit of the primary equipment you will require, with suggestions of items that can be added as you progress.  In addition to this, is a mentorship scheme, with a bi-weekly zoom or telephone conversation for a period of 3 months, where I can help you solve any obstacles you encounter.

A full list of recommended suppliers is provided, including those I use myself.

After a light lunch, we will cover the CLP (Classified Labelling and Packaging) legislation as it currently stands when trading within the UK.  We will also brain-storm some ideas of how to launch your business, your intended product range, the best sales’ platforms with proven results and the use of social media for marketing campaigns. This is your time to ask any questions you may have, so do come prepared with a list if you can!

This course runs just once a month from 10.00am until 3.30/4.00pm on the 4th Friday of the month.
